The FMVA BIG Art Exhibition

For two months each spring, the work of the Fargo Moorhead Visual Artists (FMVA) fills our 4th Floor Gallery at the Hjemkomst Center. The pieces come from art educators, emerging artists, and established artists from right here in the Red River Valley. The group regularly includes ceramicists, glassblowers, photographers, videographers, illustrators, sculptors, painters, and woodcarvers. Many of these folks are also our local teachers, professors, graphic designers, writers, welders, farmers, bartenders, and students.

As a result, the FMVA Big Art Exhibition has been one of the largest multimedia art shows in the region. Each year brings new themes and new media and a new peek into the minds of our local artists. The opening receptions bring together a large and growing group of talented and wonderful people. Each year gets bigger and better. Thousands of students, tourists, and local art hounds get a fun look at hyper-local art during the Hjemkomst Center's busiest season.

However, this spring has been strange and we now find ourselves facing the COVID-19 Pandemic, a public health and economic crisis. Following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and the Minnesota Department of Health, our museum is closed and will remain closed until further notice.

So this year we've taken the FMVA BIG Art Exhibition online. Explore the talent of the Fargo Moorhead Visual Artists here and please join us at the Hjemkomst Center when we can safely reopen.

In the meantime, please consider supporting the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County as we weather a museum closure.

If you are an artist, please consider joining the Fargo Moorhead Visual Artists.

Support local history. Support local art.

Take care and be safe.
