Accessibility Services and Accommodations
The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County (HCSCC) is committed to serving visitors of all ages and all abilities. We strive to provide equal access and a positive experience for all of our patrons; and we continue to search for solutions to the challenges presented by our property and historic sites. We plan to make steady progress wherever possible by removing barriers to our programs, services, events, exhibitions, and sites.
For access questions or to request accommodations (including private group tours, audio description, touch tours, or ASL interpreters) please contact our programming director, Markus Krueger by phone at (218) 299-5511, ext. 6738, or by email at [email protected].
Mobility/Wheelchair Access
The Hjemkomst Center and Hopperstad Stave Church are fully wheelchair accessible. The front entrance to the museum has an electric door operated by a push plate. The museum exhibitions and display cases are placed for accessible viewing. The four floors are accessible by stairs and elevator and all restrooms are accessible by wheelchair. Our gift shop, meeting rooms, and museum theater are also wheelchair accessible.
In addition, we offer two manual wheelchairs and two electric wheelchairs for museum visitors.
Parking and Public Transportation
HCSCC has designated accessible parking marked in the front of the building. A valid disability parking permit is required for use. Visitors to the museum may also be dropped off and picked up at the front entrance of the building at the entry ramp. The area includes a flat surface into the building. No parking is permitted at the drop-off and pick-up area.
Public transportation via Metro Area Transit (MATbus) is available to and from the museum. MATbus's Route 4 stops at the museum every 30 minutes. During large festivals, free parking is available at the Moorhead Center Mall with free shuttle service.
For more information about MATbus, visit them online or call (701) 232-7500.
For paratransit visitor passes, visit MATbus online or call (701) 241-8558.
