ATTENTION - COVID-19 Announcement

Due to the ongoing risks associated with COVID-19, we have canceled Scandinavian Hjemkomst & Midwest VIking Festival. The event was originally scheduled for June 25 & 26, 2021. Please join us when we gather again in 2021!

Scandinavian Hjemkomst & Midwest Viking Festival

Each June, HCSCC and Nordic Culture Clubs collaborate on a two-day festival celebrating the histories of Nordic immigration to the Red River Valley. From the forested lakes of Finland through the Norwegian fjords to the shores of Iceland, each summer brings together an international collection of chefs, artists, musicians, storytellers, historians, and vendors. We look forward to the event's return in 2022.

*Details from 2019

Nordic Marketplace

Inside the Hjemkomst Center you’ll find the Nordic Marketplace, where you can shop for Scandinavian imports and explore life in the North Atlantic from saga storytellers to Hardanger fiddlers. In the auditorium, you’ll find Tastes of Scandinavia, where we’ll be serving your favorite Nordic foods, from smoked salmon to aebleskiver to lefse and lingonberries.

Viking Village

Outside, we’re dialing it back to the Viking Age in Viking Village. Dance around the maypole, play the village games of the Viking Age, try your shot in our Viking archery range, check out our Viking Age artisans and vendors, and enjoy our Viking battle demos staged in Viking Ship Park every two hours. The beautiful Hopperstad Stave Church will be filled with performances and our Viking Beer Garden will be sharing tasty, Viking-theme drinks from Minnesota's HammerHeart Brewing and Wyoming's Big Lost Meadery.

Many of our favorite demonstrators will be back, joined this year by Danish newcomers Niels Fulgyr (Viking locksmith), Jacob
Børsting (blacksmith), Linnea Bang-Madsen (tablet weaver), Jeppe Garly (blacksmith), and UK-based Viking storyteller Adrian Spendlow.
