On Thursday, January 25, NDSU Public History student Kirbie Sondreal discusses the role of public memorials in a painful episode of Minnesota history: a 1920 Duluth lynching and the 2003 monument erected in its memory (the first lynching memorial in the U.S.).

Beginning at 6:30PM, Sondreal explores the roles of monuments and recounts the tragedy that would eventually construct one. After the lecture guests are welcome to mingle and enjoy light refreshments while exploring one of the area’s most historic homes.
